R&D Appraisal Policy at DTC

Purpose:
The Research & Development Appraisal Policy aims to foster a culture of innovation and academic excellence by encouraging faculty, researchers, and students to engage in impactful research and development activities. This policy provides a structured framework for evaluating, recognizing, and rewarding contributions in research, fostering continuous improvement, and promoting the institution’s growth in research output.


Objectives:

  1. To encourage high-quality research that contributes to academic and industry advancements.
  2. To establish clear criteria for evaluating research performance and outcomes.
  3. To recognize and reward innovative research, publications, patents, and collaborations.
  4. To promote interdisciplinary and collaborative research initiatives.
  5. To align R&D efforts with the strategic goals of the institution.

Scope:

This policy applies to all faculty members, researchers, and students engaged in research and development activities within the institution.


Appraisal Criteria:

Research and development performance will be appraised based on the following key areas:

  1. Publications:

    • Peer-reviewed journals (Indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, etc.)
    • Conference papers and presentations at national and international forums
  2. Grants & Funding:

    • Securing external research grants from government or private bodies
    • Participation in funded research projects
  3. Patents & Innovations:

    • Filing and granting of patents
    • Development of innovative products, processes, or technologies
  4. Collaborations & Partnerships:

    • Industry-academic collaborations
    • Joint research projects with national and international institutions
  5. Impact & Outreach:

    • Societal impact of research projects
    • Contribution to community development or policy-making
  6. Academic Contributions:

    • Supervising student research (Ph.D., M.Phil., or Masters’ theses)
    • Editorial roles in academic journals or conferences

Evaluation Process:

  1. Self-Assessment: Researchers must submit an annual report detailing their research activities and achievements.
  2. Peer Review: A committee of experts will evaluate research outputs based on predefined criteria.
  3. Institutional Review: Final appraisal will be conducted by the Research Committee, considering both qualitative and quantitative metrics.
