R&D Appraisal Policy at DTC
Purpose:
The Research & Development Appraisal Policy aims to foster a culture of innovation and academic excellence by encouraging faculty, researchers, and students to engage in impactful research and development activities. This policy provides a structured framework for evaluating, recognizing, and rewarding contributions in research, fostering continuous improvement, and promoting the institution’s growth in research output.
Objectives:
- To encourage high-quality research that contributes to academic and industry advancements.
- To establish clear criteria for evaluating research performance and outcomes.
- To recognize and reward innovative research, publications, patents, and collaborations.
- To promote interdisciplinary and collaborative research initiatives.
- To align R&D efforts with the strategic goals of the institution.
Scope:
This policy applies to all faculty members, researchers, and students engaged in research and development activities within the institution.
Appraisal Criteria:
Research and development performance will be appraised based on the following key areas:
Publications:
- Peer-reviewed journals (Indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, etc.)
- Conference papers and presentations at national and international forums
Grants & Funding:
- Securing external research grants from government or private bodies
- Participation in funded research projects
Patents & Innovations:
- Filing and granting of patents
- Development of innovative products, processes, or technologies
Collaborations & Partnerships:
- Industry-academic collaborations
- Joint research projects with national and international institutions
Impact & Outreach:
- Societal impact of research projects
- Contribution to community development or policy-making
Academic Contributions:
- Supervising student research (Ph.D., M.Phil., or Masters’ theses)
- Editorial roles in academic journals or conferences
Evaluation Process:
- Self-Assessment: Researchers must submit an annual report detailing their research activities and achievements.
- Peer Review: A committee of experts will evaluate research outputs based on predefined criteria.
- Institutional Review: Final appraisal will be conducted by the Research Committee, considering both qualitative and quantitative metrics.
