Report on a Session on  “Digital Marketing and Social Media”

Venue: Seminar Hall, Delhi Technical Campus, Greater noida.

We, the students of Delhi Technical Campus attended an informative session on the topic of “Digital Marketing and Social Media”. Nowadays, it is very important to be digitally proficient in life. Even our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi is promoting and supporting the Digital India Scheme.

Prof. Rohan Ubriani, Founder and CMD of Flame Communication Pvt. Ltd. initiated the session with his appealing lines that “Facebook was for yesterday, Twitter is for today and Instagram is for tomorrow” with the perspective of social media. He talked about how these days people use social media not only for entertainment but also for gathering information in the form of news, for transactions, for personal and business promotions i.e., it portrays a person in a far better way by digitalising him than how the person is depicted on the paper. He also highlighted that digital marketing is spreading like a virus as it is beneficial for the business promotions and is conducted in two ways:

  • Public Relation – It is officially unpaid. It makes news worthy which is for the benefit of readers as in this relation, medias like television, radio, newspaper etc talk about the company and not only the product. It enhances our knowledge till it does not call for any legal obligation.
  • Media Independence – We always have to pay media owners for advertising and promoting the products on their particular channels.

Being an MBA student, it becomes essential to know the differences between the different marketing theories so that we can learn to select the most appropriate tools to use in our campaigns. Digital marketing is the future of marketing and will gradually gain more ground in the online and the offline world. Social media on the other hand is the new way to connect with other people. It is a part of digital marketing and is used to change the way we find new customers and promote our products.
